About Me

My Journey

My journey began in the early ’90s, working alongside school nurses with aspirations of becoming one myself. However, my passion for youth work led me to support young people in my community, collaborating with local police to create safe spaces. As I mentored young people, I saw firsthand the challenges they faced at home, and I realized my calling was to work with children and families—to support parents in breaking cycles of disadvantage. This led me to train as a social worker in 2002.

As a qualified social worker and a woman of colour, I have encountered both overt racism and systemic barriers, but my commitment to children and families has remained steadfast. My resilience, determination, and professionalism have driven me forward, even when career progression felt out of reach.

From Glass Ceilings to Empowering Others

In 2007, I became a Practice Educator, mentoring over 27 social work students, many of whom now hold leadership roles. Despite my dedication, I often felt the “glass ceiling” was firmly in place—until 2010, when a senior leader saw my potential and encouraged me to step up. That moment changed everything, reinforcing the power of representation, mentorship, and belief.

Today, as an Anti-Racist Practice Facilitator, mentor, and consultant, I use my experience to support social care and health professionals—particularly women from minority backgrounds—navigate challenges, develop their practice, and achieve their full potential. Because sometimes, all it takes is someone to remind you that you are enough, and you are doing enough.
